Unit 30: Task 8b - D2
Unit 30: Task 8b
D2
Describe and evaluate the impact that file format, compression techniques, image resolution and colour depth have on file size and image quality.
When an image file type is compressed, it can lose quality and the effectiveness of the original image. Converting a PNG to a JPEG will instantly lower the quality, depending on the quality of the given JPEG, there will be some distortion regardless – more so if it is a low quality JPEG. While converting a large file type to a smaller one, colours are affected in a way that some of the detail becomes faded or darker than the original block colour – the image will become pixelated if you zoom into it and you will be able to see each pixel. The smaller the image size, the faster the download will be.
